Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez have revealed why Chelsea ’s win over Leeds was so important.
Chelsea began life without former head coach Liam Rosenior - sacked on Wednesday night after a run of seven losses in eight games - by reaching the FA Cup final.
Fernandez, who was accused by Gary Neville of “stitching up” Rosenior , netted the only goal of the FA Cup semi-final as the Blues finally got the better of Leeds this season.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, the Argentine - captaining the side once again in the absence of Reece James - explained the victory proved the squad are still together in a difficult moment.
“I’m very happy for the team, for this win,” Fernandez said.
“It’s very important for us.
We are together in difficult moments.”
Joao Pedro , back in the team after missing defeats to Manchester United and Brighton through injury, says the win over Leeds will give the squad confidence to reach their objectives during their final games of the season.
“We had a tough week, I think this is good win for us to move forward,” the Brazilian said.
“We still have games in the Premier League and we have objectives.
“I think this win will give us more confidence.”
“I think it will be an exciting game, the Blues forward added.
“I think both teams will come to win and hopefully we can win the final.”
Chelsea have not beaten Man City in any competition since the 2021 Champions League final, though interim head coach Calum McFarlane did oversee a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium during his first spell in charge earlier in the season .
