Book of Mormon West End show is cancelled after protester hurls objects at actors in West End

A performance of The Book of Mormon was cancelled mid-show after a man in the front row began throwing objects at cast members.

The man appeared to be conducting a protest at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London ’s West End , though it is not clear what it was about.

Some audience members reported that the objects thrown were sheets of paper or food, but neither has been confirmed.

Staff at the venue were forced to take to the stage to announce the cancellation of the remaining show.

In footage filmed by a customer, the audience can be heard loudly sighing upon hearing the news.

A female worker tells them: “Unfortunately we've had an incident with one of our audience members.

“I know that this must be very disappointing for you - as it is for the cast who are performing this evening.”
She urged the crowd to pick up a “cancellation slip” to secure a refund.

On X, on user posted: “Our showing of Book of Mormon just got cancelled cause some bloke threw food on stage and muttered something about a ‘spiritual protest’.

“Right as they were about to sing the word ‘Jew’, the lead actor said ‘I’m sorry’ and they all just dipped.

“Not sure if intentional by the protester or just a coincidence.”
Another named Robin wrote: “I’m at Book of Mormon and they stopped the show because someone threw paper on stage.”
The American musical comedy tells the story of two Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints missionaries as they attempt to preach the faith.

A show spokesman told the Standard: “The performance of The Book of Mormon in London last night, Tuesday March 31, was cancelled mid-way through Act 1 following an incident involving an audience member seated in the front row disrupting the performance.

“The safety and wellbeing of cast, crew, audience members, and venue staff is always of highest priority, so the decision was made by producers of the show and Delfont Mackintosh Theatres to stop the performance and cancel the remainder of the show.

“The individual was escorted from the building, and the producers and theatre staff dealt with the authorities in relation to the matter.

“The audience were provided information on how to transfer their tickets to an alternative performance or claim refund.”
Performances will continue as scheduled from Wednesday evening.

The Metropolitan Police was approached for comment.
