Let’s face it, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) has not been coping at all of late in Emmerdale.
Most people would struggle under the weight of what he’s going through, but Cain has taken things to a whole other level.
He’s become shut down, withdrawn, impatient, aggressive, and even tried to end his marriage for fear that he’d lose his ability to have sex.
Fearing that he wouldn’t be able to keep up with her libido, he told her he thought they should part ways. He even went as far as to say he’d cancel the op and risk death as an easier option than losing his wife.
Moira (Natalie J Robb) is the resilient one of the pair and brushed his comments off like cow dung on her overalls, she’s in it for the long haul no matter what.
But her reassurance has only gone so far.
Now it’s crunch time as the day of the op has rolled around.
He and Moira don their brave faces as he prepares to go under the knife.
Kyle, on the other hand, is not doing so well at knowing his dad’s life is at risk.
The kid needn’t have worried, Cain’s op goes smoothly but when he wakes, he’s met with his worst fear – a catheter, and he’s peeling blood, signalling things are no longer working in the way they should.
For Cain it’s a reminder of facing permanent incontinence.
Actor Jeff Hordley reveals that he’s not though, he’s just been too in his own head to read the information about the after care of his op.
‘He’s peeing blood.
It’s frightening him, because he’s not taken all the information in beforehand at the meetings prior to this,’ he said.
In other words, he’s just scaring himself.
He fakes pain to avoid being discharged, but Moira knows what he’s up to and calls in backup to sort him out – Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).
But perhaps this isn’t the best move after all – Cain is changed by his ordeal.
He is struggling to control his emotions and his temper flares when he notices an atmosphere when Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) visit.
He’s a live wire and Moira is forced to spill the beans that Robert was behind her arrest.
So, Cain does what he does best, he takes vengeful action.
He ropes Sam (James Hooton) into knocking an unsuspecting Robert unconscious and dragging him to a barn, where Cain is waiting to get his revenge with a hammer.

Speaking of Cain’s reaction to learning of Robert’s betrayal, Jeff tells Metro: ‘This guy’s made so many mistakes in the past, as far as Cain’s concerned.
‘Already taking the farm in his eyes off him, but then to find out that he was instrumental in Moira going inside, he [Cain] just sees the red mist descend.
He finds the strength to go round with a hammer.’
No story ends well that begins with ‘he finds the strength to go round with a hammer.’
Is Cain about to make a very big mistake?
