On March 17, Capcom's fighting game Street Fighter 6 received a new DLC fighter, Alex , and players were quick to point out there was something a bit odd about his storyline in the game.

After finishing Arcade Mode with Alex, players learn he has married his younger adoptive sister/second cousin, Patricia.

Worse yet, they're expecting a baby.

Unsurprisingly, Alex's ending made plenty of fans feel quite icky over the incestuous direction Capcom took his character.

Alex and his now-wife Patricia were always depicted as members of a found family; Alex was orphaned as a boy and taken in by his mother's cousin Tom, which meant he and Patricia were raised as adoptive siblings.

And, again, now they're preparing to welcome a baby.

Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama went to X to address the controversy.

His statement begins by apologizing for "any confusion" over Alex's storyline before asserting, "While we have not changed the characters’ backstories, after internal review by the development team, we plan to revise certain text passages that may have been misleading in the near future." So it certainly seems like Capcom is sticking with incest for the time being.

As of this writing, it's not clear what changes Capcom is making to those "certain text passages that may have been misleading." As a report by IGN speculates, Capcom could look to revise Alex and Tom's relationship to further put some distance between them, though whatever changes Capcom makes will have to do some heavy lifting to wash off the ick caused by its perplexing decision to write an incestuous relationship into the game.
