Cher was shocked to discover she had a teenage granddaughter in an emotional phone call after her son, Elijah Allman, confessed.
The Believe legend, 79, was unaware of her grandchild, Ever, for most of her life but reportedly found out last June that the rumours of a secret child were true.
Kayti Edwards, had a brief relationship with Elijah, 49, which resulted in Ever being born in 2010.
The pair had been friends for years before their relationship developed, with the model becoming pregnant after a one-night stand.
Kayti, 49, has now told The Sun on Sunday that Cher got in touch with her last year and was left ‘speechless’ by the news.
‘Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,’ she revealed.
However, he ‘did not want to be a parent’ so while he was aware of Ever’s existence and had visited a few times, he did not introduce her to the family.
Kayti continued: ‘Cher said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk.’
After confirming the rumours which had crept through the family, Cher reportedly said: ‘Oh my God, I’m finally a grandma’.
The protective mum said the teen considers Kayti’s husband her true dad but Elijah had promised to ‘make amends’.
Elijah, Cher’s youngest son, suffers from mental health issues, including addiction, with the Mamma Mia 2 star seeking a temporary conservator.
In 2014, he admitted that he started smoking weed and taking ecstasy when he was just 11.
She first filed for a conservatorship three years ago but in court documents stated his life had ‘significantly deteriorated’ since then.
Last year, Elijah was rushed to the hospital in Joshua Tree, California, after ‘overdosing earlier Saturday morning.’
Court documents, seen by The Daily Mail, claimed he is currently in a psychiatric hospital after being found unconscious behind the wheel of his car.
In the documents, Cher claimed he has ‘no concept of money’ and owes $18,000 (£13,000) to a drug dealer.
The I Got You Babe legend has not spoken publicly about her son, who has recently faced several arrests over burglary, assault, and trespassing in New Hampshire.
Cher is hoping to appoint Jason Rubin, a fiduciary, as the conservator of Elijah’s estate so his life ‘can start being fixed one problem at a time.’
