Creighton head coach Greg McDermott is set to retire after the season, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

He is set to step down after Creighton's run at the College Basketball Crown tournament ends in April.

McDermott spent 16 seasons at Creighton, going 365-188 and leading them to the Elite Eight in 2023.

He won two regular-season championships and two conference tournament championships as their head coach.

Creighton did not have to look far for his replacement and is set to name Alan Huss their next head coach.

Huss is their associate head coach and head coach in waiting.

He played at Creighton from 1997-2001 and joined their coaching staff in 2017 as an assistant coach under McDermott.

He left after the 2023 season to become High Point's head coach and returned to Creighton ahead of the 2026 season as McDermott's successor.

While McDermott's career is ending on a disappointing season, the Blue Jays failed to make the NCAA Tournament after going 15-17, he had tremendous success in his 26 years as a head coach.

He also spent time at Wayne State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and Iowa State before taking over Creighton in 2010.

He has a 645-383 overall record and made the NCAA Tournament 15 times.

Huss went 56-15 in his two seasons at High Point, guiding them to the NCAA Tournament in 2025.

They won the Big South regular-season championship in both seasons and the tournament in his final season.
