Donald Trump has said that his war with Iran is about to be over as previously failed peace talks could resume.

The US president has gone from swearing at the Iranians over the Strait of Hormuz on Truth Social to now hinting that the collapsed negotiations could resume.

Trump also said the war is nearly over, referring to the conflict he started with Iran in the past tense during an interview.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said: ‘I think it’s close to over, yeah.

I view it as very close to being over.’
But he then seemed to pivot and suggest the US could always turn around and continue attacking the country if he wanted.

The 79-year-old continued: ‘If I pulled up stakes right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild their country, and we’re not finished.

‘We’ll see what happens.

I think they want to make a deal very badly.’
But the volatile situation has all but eased after Trump blocked the Strait of Hormuz to stop Iranian-linked ships from passing through the waterway.

POTUS announced the blockade on Sunday after the weekend truce talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, failed between the Iranian and US negotiators.

In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said: ‘You should stay there [Islamabad], really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there.’
However, the Iranians are yet to respond to the suggestion.

Meanwhile, time is ticking for the US-Iran ceasefire, which is due to end next week.

In Lebanon, Israeli military is continuing deadly bombardment in areas it says are linked to pro-Iranian Hezbollah fighters.

The Israeli attacks since the start of the Iran war have killed more than 2,000 people in Lebanon, according to the country’s health ministry.

Israel and Lebanon, which have had historically inflamed relations for decades, are set to hold their first direct diplomatic talks in Washington, helping to pave way for the end of the Iran war.
