Eamonn Holmes 'loses beloved job of 19 years' at Manchester United after suffering stroke

Eamonn Holmes has reportedly lost his job at Manchester United after 19 years amid his health struggles.

The GB News presenter, 66, is currently recovering from a stroke after being hospitalised last month.

He has allegedly been hit with an “enforced break” from his role on the board of the Manchester United Foundation, with filings at Companies House showing him as “resigned” from his role as director.

“Standard practice means each member should not exceed nine consecutive years on the board, as they could be deemed “non-independent” and not working objectively, a source told the Daily Mail .

“It is only a ceiling benchmark, and it is possible to remain on for longer.

“While Eamonn has served two consecutive stints, on this occasion the current chair of the board has used their discretion to implement a mandatory ‘break’ which has resulted in Eamonn stepping aside.”
The insider added: “It is ultimately out of Eamonn’s control.

While it is believed Eamonn could one day return to the board, it is unclear how long the enforced break is.”
The Standard has contacted Holmes’ representative for comment.

The former This Morning host was rushed to hospital last month after suffering a stroke.

A GB News spokesperson said: “He is currently responding well to treatment.

Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.

“His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the people’s channel when he is ready to return.”
Holmes later said he is “doing his best” to get better.

He captioned the post: “As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well - I will do my best to get well SOOM.

Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength.”

“What happened came as a real shock, but Dad is doing okay given the circumstances and we're taking it one step at a time.

“For now, we're focused on him and keeping things steady around him.”
Alex Armstrong has been filling in for Holmes on GB News Breakfast, the show he co-hosts with Ellie Costello from Monday to Wednesday.

Holmes has battled a slew of health issues in recent years.

He recently said the past two years dealing with illness and mobility problems have been “horrendous ”.

The broadcaster underwent a double hip replacement in 2016.

Five years later, he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis.

The presenter later had spinal surgery , and his ongoing mobility issues mean he now often uses a walker or wheelchair .
