Germany: 7-year-old flashes €5,000 cash at Osnabrück school

Police in the northwestern city of Osnabrück on Thursday reported that a 7-year-old boy had been the talk of the class at his elementary school when he flashed a wad of banknotes worth €5,000 (roughly $5,800) with his friends.

"The nipper from the Osnabrück rural district had valuable luggage on hand.

No funny money, all totally legal — and only to be looked at," police wrote of the unusual case in Lower Saxony .

How had the boy come across the cash?

"The car purchase would have to wait for now.

These gorgeous banknotes would first have to be admired by his classmates.

And so the envelope migrated into his satchel — and the lad became the most popular kid of the morning," police said.

He let his classmates inspect and even smell some of the banknotes, eventually attracting the attention of his teacher, who alerted police as a precaution on Wednesday morning.

"The officer arrived and soon brought light into the dark.

The cash was rounded up, put back in the envelope, and returned to the parents.

No harm done.
