A Californian jury has found that Elon Musk misled investors before his $44 billion takeover of Twitter in 2022, as reported by the BBC .

Musk had testified he did not believe his tweets were misleading, but conceded, "If this was a trial about whether I made stupid tweets, I would say I'm guilty." Sometimes the headlines write themselves.

Musk attempted to back out of an agreement to buy Twitter in July 2022, flinging some wild accusations at Twitter's then-leadership as he did so, but after several months of legal back-and-forth he purchased the company for his original offer price in October that year.

He soon renamed the company X, merged it with his artificial intelligence company xAI, and then with SpaceX.

"This is a great example of what you cannot do to the average investor, people that have 401ks, kids, pension funds, teachers, firemen, nurses," said attorney Joseph Cotchett.

"That's what this case was all about.

This was not about Musk.

It was about the whole operation."
