Manchester Fire and Rescue Services asked people in the surrounding area to keep windows and doors shut after a fire erupted in Trafford Park
Firefighters are tackling a blaze at an industrial unit in Manchester , with police closing major roads around the area.
Emergency services are at the scene of a fire in Trafford Park at a factory unit with fire engines, Greater Manchester Police presence and the North West Ambulance Service in attendance, according to local news.
Fire crews from Stretford, Eccles and Manchester Central were reportedly called to the blaze on Clarence Avenue in Trafford Park just after 1.25pm on Friday, Manchester Evening News reported.
The fire reportedly involved part of a factory building, with reports that chemicals and oil drums were stored nearby.
Crews reportedly deployed jets to fight the flames, while additional engines, specialist equipment and an aerial appliance were also mobilised.
Footage on social media showed thick plumes of smoke pouring from the industrial park which could be seen from as far away as Lancashire and Snowdon.
The source of the fire remains unknown.
Manchester Fire and Rescue Services attending the fire have asked people in the surrounding area to keep windows and doors shut and avoid the location while emergency services work at the scene.
“Crews are currently dealing with a fire at an industrial unit in Trafford Park,” they said in a statement.
“Please keep windows and doors shut if you are in the surrounding area and avoid the location while emergency services work at the scene.
“Thank you for your cooperation.”
