Motorists are stuck in severe delays of almost 90 minutes on a nine-kilometre stretch of road in south-east London this afternoon.
Drivers are advised to avoid the A2 eastbound from Kidbrooke Interchange to Danson Road near Falconwood.
Highways cameras show long lines of static traffic and some frustrated motorists are even reported to have turned around and driven the wrong way down the road to try and escape.
The AA said: “Severe delays of 86 minutes and delays increasing are on the A2 Eastbound between A2213 Kidbrooke Park Road (Kidbrooke Interchange) and Danson Road, with an average speed of 5mph.”
Fire crews freed a driver trapped in a vehicle on the A2 in Canterbury, Kent earlier today.
Emergency services were called to the crash on the westbound carriageway of the A2 in Harbledown, near Canterbury.
Paramedics treated the injured person after they were set free by fire and rescue officers.
A fire service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a crash involving one car on the A2, London-bound near Harbledown.
“Three fire engines attended, and crews used cutting equipment to release one person from the vehicle.
“One person was passed into the care of SECAmb paramedics.”
