The UK’s biggest coalition loyalty scheme has teamed up with the transport and food delivery firm to let shoppers turn their Nectar balance into real-life treats.
These aren’t just earned through the supermarket though; the card is also accepted across hundreds of major brands, including eBay, Argos, Esso, and British Airways.
From 500 to 4,000 points at a time can be converted for Uber or Uber Eats vouchers through the Nectar app.
That’s equivalent to between £2.50 and £20 off an order or purchase, the lower end of which can be racked up in as little as two weeks based on the average UK household food spend.
So, if you’ve been saving up those bonuses for a while, it could mean your next night in or trip across town is already covered — or at the very least give you a decent discount.
It’s the first and only time Nectar has joined forces with a ride‑hailing platform, with its 24 million members now able to collect and spend at over 500 big-brand partners.
Mark Given, Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer, said the move was about making rewards ‘fit easily into everyday life’.
‘We’re giving people more ways to enjoy the value they get from Nectar, making everyday moments more rewarding,’ he explained in a comment.
‘Being able to use Nectar points on Uber rides or an Uber Eats treat is something we know people will love.’
Meanwhile, Uber’s head of grocery and retail, Katie Hunter, added: ‘Nectar has built a deep connection with British households, and we are so pleased to become their first-ever ride-hailing and delivery partner.
