Marc Cucurella 'very happy' as statement issued amid Barcelona transfer links

Marc Cucurella has said he would consider a return to Spain at some point in the future, but has stressed that he is happy at Chelsea .

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton in the summer of 2022 for a reported fee of £60million and has established himself as the undisputed first choice left-back in recent seasons.

Despite being a defender, Cucurella has weighed in with some important goals for Chelsea, most recently against West Ham to inspire a comeback win in a fiery London derby .

Furthermore, Cucurella was vital in Spain’s Euro 2024 success, thus proving his credentials on the international stage.

The 27-year-old is expected to feature for La Roja in their international friendly against Egypt on Tuesday evening, and has been quizzed about his future ahead of the game.

Cucurella still has just over two years left to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge but was asked about a potential return to Barcelona having come through the academy at La Masia prior to moving to Eibar and subsequently Getafe on a permanent transfer.

While admitting that it would be tough to turn down a Barcelona reunion, Cucurella insists he is “very happy” at Chelsea.

Speaking to Spanish publication Marca, Cucurella said: “It would be difficult to refuse.

It’s not just about me.

I’d have to think about my family.

If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what decision is made.

“You always think about going back [to LaLiga ].

I’m very happy there, and so is my family.

I’ll leave it for a few years from now.”
Cucurella’s admission comes hot on the heels of Chelsea vice-captain Enzo Fernandez further fuelling transfer talk of a summer move to Real Madrid .

The Argentine has not shied away from speculation over his future, having earlier this month cast doubt over staying at Chelsea following the club's exit from the Champions League.

Asked by ESPN Argentina whether he would be a Blues player next season, Fernandez said: “I don't know.

Right now I'm focused on here, then there's the World Cup, and we'll see.”
