A six-year-old girl who showed remarkable bravery when her mum suffered a life-threatening bleed on the brain has been honoured alongside her younger sister.

Pearl acted quickly to unlock her mum’s phone and dial 999.

Sounding understandably upset, but calm enough to describe what was happening, Pearl told call handler Gen Hinds her mum was “lying on the sofa” and was not awake.

“Her eyes keep opening and closing,” she said.

Pearl said her mum had been shaking and foaming at the mouth and gave her address when asked.

“I’m really, really scared,” Pearl said on the call, prompting Ms Hinds to reassure her that a response was on its way.

Pearl was also able to follow instructions and confirm her mum was breathing by saying her chest was rising and falling.

She said: “When I arrived, it must have been so frightening for Pearl and Amelia, but they remained calm and really helped me.

“They listened carefully to what I needed and even helped pack everything they would need for hospital.”
Ms Aisbitt was followed by an ambulance crew around five minutes after she arrived.

Carole was taken to hospital, where doctors discovered she was suffering from a bleed on the brain.

She has since made a good recovery.

Pearl said she knew what to do on the call because she “knew the number and I just memorised it because I really love my mum” and she had “made sure” she knew how to call it.

Pearl and Amelia were invited to meet the emergency teams who helped them, where they were presented with commendation certificates by Ms Aisbitt.

The girls were then given a tour of an ambulance and shown some of the equipment on board.

Carole said: “I am so happy and so proud.

I think this is the proudest day of my life.

I knew Pearl was smart but you don’t know how a child will cope in an emergency.”
London Ambulance Service Director of 999 operations Stuart Crichton, said: “Pearl did absolutely brilliantly in a terrifying situation – she stayed calm, gave clear information, and helped get lifesaving care on the way.
