Murder hunt after man, 29, shot dead sitting in car outside Euston Station

Police are investigating after a man was shot dead while sitting in a car outside Euston Station on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called at around 11pm after gunshots were heard.

Police said CCTV showed a suspect, who arrived and left on a bike, firing several shots at the man who was sitting in a white Nissan Juke.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “We are aware of the concern that this will cause for the local community, and want to reassure them that we are working hard to identify the attacker and bring them to justice.

“If anyone has any information that could help us, it is extremely important that they contact the police – either through 101, online or via independent charity Crimestoppers to remain anonymous.

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family at this incredibly difficult time.”
A police cordon remains in place at the scene, which is also near King’s Cross and St Pancras stations and the British Library, and forensic investigators could be seen.

A man who works in Chalton Street, who wished to be known only as Shamim, said one of his colleagues heard the gunshots.

Shamim told the Press Association: “My colleague told me there was a big bang.

A loud bang a few times.”
He added patrons of the nearby pub – The Cock Tavern – came out to see what had happened.

“Chalton Street has always had a bad record about this… a lot of violence.

A lot of residents don’t feel safe any more,” Shamim said.

“There are big numbers of residents in this area, we need to have more police.”
Shamim said that, because the street is in a central part of London, it sees a lot of passersby, including tourists and he added “we need more protection”.

“A lot of people are scared,” he said.

It comes as police quizzed two men on suspicion of murder after a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death in central London on Friday night.

Police were called at 10.17pm to reports of a stabbing in Abbey Orchard Street, Westminster, and officers found a man with stab wounds.

He has been named by police as Farmanullah Sherzad.

They provided first aid before the London Ambulance Service took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two men, aged 18 and 21, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody where they remain, the Metropolitan Police said.
