Steven Spielberg has unveiled fresh footage from his new sci-fi film Disclosure Day, telling CinemaCon in Las Vegas that there is "more truth than fiction" in the story.
The Oscar-winning director presented the film during Universal’s showcase at the annual gathering of cinema owners and industry figures.
Disclosure Day marks Spielberg’s latest return to extraterrestrial storytelling, nearly 50 years after Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Speaking on stage at Caesars Palace, Spielberg said he made the new film with a stronger sense that the story may not be as far-fetched as it seems.
The director, who has said he has long been fascinated by what may be happening in the night sky, told the audience the film would both answer questions and leave viewers with more to think about.
Disclosure Day is due in cinemas this summer and stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo and Colin Firth.
Describing the film as "an experience", Spielberg joked that audiences would need only "a seatbelt" from beginning to end.
During his appearance, Spielberg was also honoured by the Motion Picture Association, where he used the moment to renew his call for longer exclusive theatrical windows before films move to streaming platforms.
He praised Universal’s commitment to a 45-day theatrical window for wide releases, before joking from the stage that he was now hearing talk of 60 days.
His remarks come as studios and cinema chains continue to weigh how best to protect box office revenues in the streaming era.
