Liverpool travel to Everton in their latest game of their ongoing Champions League qualification quest.

The reigning Premier League champions are fifth in the Premier League table after a disappointing title defence, which has seen pressure mount on manager Arne Slot after heavy summer transfer investment.

The Dutchman has managed to turn fortunes around somewhat, and could salvage the campaign with a top-five finish.

That would see the Reds return once more to Europe’s premier competition, where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals earlier this week.

Holders Paris Saint-Germain beat them handily 4-0 on aggregate, with Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele netting a second-leg brace at Anfield to kill off any lingering Liverpool hope.

Now, they take on their local rivals, who are also on the hunt for an unlikely European place.

David Moyes has led his men to 10th in the table, and they are just one point off sixth-placed Chelsea.

A win here would propel today’s hosts into Europa League contention above Liam Rosenior’s Blues, and have them just two points worse off than Liverpool.
