Manchester United vs Liverpool LIVE
Kobbie Mainoo scored a fine late winner to quell a valiant Liverpool comeback and a return to the Champions League for Manchester United .

The hosts were untouchable in the first-half and raced to a two-goal lead thanks to the returning Matheus Cunha and a clumsily bundled finish from Benjamin Sesko.

But Liverpool were renewed after the break and levelled the tie through Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo, before Mainoo celebrated his new long-term contract with an emphatic winner in front of the adoring Stretford End.

The victory sees United complete a rare league double over Liverpool, who were without eight first-team players for the short trip across the northwest, but will hope to welcome some fresh faces back into contention ahead of hosting Chelsea next week.

There was good news for United ahead of the match as Luke Shaw and Matheus Cunha, who had both been injured, made the starting lineup, but there is fresh concern over the condition of Benjamin Sesko, who hobbled off at half-time.

Catch up with the action as it happened below with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, complete with expert insight and analysis.

90+5mins: He does exactly that, but Casemiro clears.

That should, just about, be that.

If nothing else, it is a chance for Szoboszlai to lift a ball into the mixer.

90+1mins: Fernandes goes down in the box, perhaps softly, and VAR check for a penalty but do not award one.

90mins: We have played the full 90 minutes now, and the fourth official treats us to a further five.

88mins: And an ambitious roll of the dice from Slot as he throws Chiesa into the mix, replacing Konate.

Attacking midfielder on in place of a centre-back.

Let’s see if that pays off.

86mins: Ngumoha dances through several tackles but goes for one too many and is forced out of play by Maguire.

That allows Cunha to be replaced by Zirkzee.

82mins: Ngumoha cuts inside and flashes a shot wide of the Lammens’ goal.

That move is fast becoming his trademark.
