The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is currently the best Windows gaming handheld PC on the market.

It's powerful enough to run even the latest AAA Steam games thanks to the updated AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor.

The Xbox interface is also intuitive and easy to use.

All the miniaturization comes at a cost, and the Xbox Ally X sells for $1,000 with no price drop in sight.

Fortunately, there is a simple way to get one for a significantly lower price, and that's by getting an open box unit.

Get an Open Box Asus ROG Xbox Ally X From Best Buy for $870

Best Buy has recently refreshed its inventory of "excellent condition" open box Asus ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming PCs.

Note only that, the retailer has decided to temporarily drop the price to $869.99 with free delivery.

Excellent condition units usually cost anywhere between $920 and $950.

These are the best graded Geek Squad verified preowned units and are in like-new condition both functionally and cosmetically with very low usage time.

Because many of these are either brand new with dented packaging or are 30-day customer returns (usually from buyers' remorse), some units even include most or all of its original warranty.

Alternatively, pick up an import model from AliExpress

AliExpress currently carries an imported unit for $895 after you apply $60 off coupon code "USAFF60".

This is the lowest price I've seen for a new (not used) listing since its release back in October 2025.

Lucky Tech Store is a reputable retailer that sells imported consoles including the Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Ally X.

Your order ships locally from a warehouse in the United States, with most orders being delivered within a week.

That means you don't have to worry about tariffs, import fees, or egregiously long shipping times.

The Xbox Ally X Is the New Handheld Gaming PC to Beat

The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is the most powerful handheld gaming PC you can get.

It's equipped with the newest AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a 1TB SSD.

It runs off the Windows operating system, but with Xbox integration.

The nomenclature might be confusing, but the Xbox Ally X is really more of an evolution of the the Asus ROG Ally X handheld than it is an actual Xbox console.

Jacqueline Thomas sums it up quite well in her Xbox Ally X review:
"The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is a fascinating little device.

Because while it’s being sold as a sort of handheld Xbox, it’s more of a sequel to last year’s incredible Asus ROG Ally X.

But the Xbox side of it can’t be ignored, because it’s the first device to launch with support for the new Xbox Full Screen Experience.

This allows the handheld to boot straight into the Xbox App within Windows, without loading Explorer or any of the non-gaming-related background tasks that typically load when you boot up Windows 11.

In a lot of ways, this partnership feels like Microsoft’s response to the rise of the SteamOS, and for the first time since the Steam Deck came out in 2022 it might actually have something that’s as easy to use."
Jackie also goes on to say that "the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is easily the best handheld gaming PC available right now." Compared to other gaming handhelds equipped with the same Z2 Extreme CPU, the Xbox Ally X is actually reasonably priced.

The Lenovo Legion Go 2 costs $1,100 (and actually just increased in price) and the MSI Claw A8 costs $1,150.
