After nearly 20 years of immersive events, Secret Cinema is finally planning to open a permanent flagship venue in London.
Secret Cinema has created over 60 unique cinematic experiences, recreating films like Dirty Dancing, Back to the Future, and Casino Royale.
The company first began with mystery screenings, before launching events with purpose-built sets and interactive performances.
Screenings often have a charity link, such as a screening of Dead Poets Society after Robin Williams’ death, with proceeds going to Mind.
The new venue is set to be built on the Greenwich Peninsula, with developers hoping to open later this year.
This venue joins a new Troubadour Theatres development, which boasts two 1,500-seat auditoriums.
‘We are committed to bringing world-class immersive experiences to London audiences and are thrilled to work with local businesses and partners to make this happen.’
Secret Cinema attracted some backlash over ticket prices in 2020 but founder Fabien Riggall defended the cost, comparing their shows to theatre rather than average cinema experiences.
Merritt, who is co-founder of TodayTix, which has a controlling interest in Secret Cinema as of 2021, continued: ‘Secret Cinema is a curator of lasting memories and epic experiences, trailblazing the future of entertainment.
‘We are looking forward to breaking ground on this venue and continuing to bring entertainment’s most loved stories to life.’

Secret Cinema was originally founded in London in 2007 by Fabien, with the chosen film remaining a mystery until the screening began.
Nowadays, the production is much larger with shows such as Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical, which is returning this summer, revealed ahead of time.
‘We’re proud to see another ambitious, globally recognised brand choose Greenwich Peninsula for its next chapter and look forward to the energy it will bring to the neighbourhood.’
