Shenmue 3 Enhanced is a shinier version of Yu Suzuki's opus with a new camera option that harkens back to the original

Shenmue is a game that will just always be there, I can't quite imagine a world without it. Just hanging around in the background, waiting for you patiently, maybe even coming into the foreground to say hello again because it missed you.

Why did they light Suzuki like that, though
Shenmue is a game that will just always be there, I can't quite imagine a world without it.

Just hanging around in the background, waiting for you patiently, maybe even coming into the foreground to say hello again because it missed you.

That time of saying hello appears to be rearing its beautiful head again, as Ys Net (and of course the one and only Yu Suzuki himself) have announced a new, shinier edition of Shenmue 3 is on the way.

Quite simply titled Shenmue 3 Enhanced, it is very much a does what it says on the tin kind of situation.

For example, graphics have also been "enhanced," so the devs say, with sharper textures and smoother gameplay, which I assume means a few more frames for your seconds.

There's DLSS/FSR support for those that want a bump in quality, too.

Load times are faster, textures have had a 4K uplift, there's more NPCs to make the world feel a touch more alive, the usual kind of upgrades, you know?

I think my favourite sounding additional feature is that there'll be a classic camera mode.

This apparently is inspired by the original two Shenmue games that shifts the perspective to be more in line with those games.

It is an optional setting, but camera work in gameplay is an underutilised design choice in many modern games, so I better see at least some of you use it.

The trailer tickled me something fierce too.

Whoever decided to film Suzuki on the brightest day of the year, apparently, and simply didn't crank down the ISO, I commend you for your choice to present this new, supposedly enhanced version of the game, with as much jank as I would expect out of something like Shenmue.

There's no release date for this new version of the game just yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam right here if you fancy.
