Many in the Houston area reported hearing a loud boom and seeing green flashes in the sky on Saturday
Sherrie James was left speechless after a heavy space rock busted through her roof and through the ceiling of her daughter’s bedroom on Saturday.

A loud boom and flash of light was witnessed by many in the Houston area, with the Brenham Fire Department noting witnesses “saw a green flash from the sky” and noted speculation that it was “a possible meteor.”
“I saw the rock and the first thing that came to my mind was that it was a meteor,” James told Fox 26 Houston.

“It’s very heavy, and it doesn’t look like a normal rock or anything…Just the weight of it, you can tell something is different.”
James also noted that the rock left a hole in the ceiling and indents on the ground, meaning it came crashing down with great force.

Local fire officials later confirmed James’ suspicions, telling her that a meteor did explode nearby, sending fragments flying throughout the air.

Even NASA weighed in, confirming that a 3-foot meteor fragment hit northwestern Houston Saturday.

In a post on X, NASA noted that the meteor became visible at 49 miles above Stagecoach, northwest of Houston, and moved southeast at 35,000 mph.

The meteor broke apart at 29 miles above Bammel, just west of Cypress Station, NASA said.

“The fragmentation of the meteor — which weighed about a ton with a diameter of 3 feet — created a pressure wave that caused booms heard by some in the area.

Doppler weather radar also showed meteorites produced between Willowbrook and Northgate Crossing,” NASA said.
