FaceGym has built a devoted following over the past few years by taking a unique approach to skin treatments.

FaceGym Pro

Think of the FACEGYM Pro as a cardio workout for your face.

Apply the POWERLIFT EMS Activator Gel first, then gently glide across your skin to let the electrical pulses do all the work to tone, sculpt and strengthen facial muscles.

Just like how we go to the gym to work out, the founder Inge Theron wanted to create a range of workouts for the face, in its self-titled ‘studios’ that provide non-invasive massage and muscle-stimulating facials.

Beyond in-store treatments, it also sells a range of high-tech products to sculpt, tone, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your cheeks and jawline.

The handheld device uses electrical muscle stimulation, microcurrent, and warming technology to zap the face to lift sagging skin, improve elasticity, reduce puffiness and give you a more contoured appearance
For optimal results, FaceGym recommends using it at least once, ideally 3 to 5 times per week, for 10 minutes on the face and neck.

While it all sounds very high-tech, I wanted to see how it measures up, so I have spent the last few weeks putting it through its paces.

Here’s my verdict.

How do you use the FaceGym Pro?

It’s a straightforward process.

First, on clean skin, following instructions in the device’s manual, I applied a generous layer of the activator gel that comes with it.

This is essential to apply before using the device, as the electrical muscle stimulation currents won’t conduct without it, and you won’t get any of the benefits.

There are 10 power settings, with one being the weakest and 10 the strongest, but I’d recommend starting low and working your way up until you find one that’s comfortable and you get used to it.

I began on three and after one session, cranked it up to nine for the final few swipes.

Then all you need to do is place it against your face and move it in upward and outward motions, along the jawline, from the cheeks to your temple and along the forehead.

It’s a bizarre sensation that makes your face twitch and your eyes blink – don’t worry, it’s not painful or uncomfortable.

How long will it take to see results from the FaceGym Pro?

I noticed a difference immediately after the first use.

My cheeks looked lifted, and my jawline more defined.

I found I saw the most immediate change when I used it first thing in the morning, when my face is puffy and tired.

Between the settings of seven and 10, it’s very strong – stronger than any other microcurrent device I’ve tried, which does take some getting used to, but I found to be extremely satisfying.

A bit of redness after the 10-minute treatment is typical, but despite having rosacea and being very redness-prone, it went down within half an hour for me.

Is the FaceGym Pro worth it?

If you have the budget, yet.

It feels like it’s actually doing something, not just because you can feel your face being zapped by the electrical muscle stimulation currents, or your face twitching as you glide the device across it.

It’s like any high-tech tool, you’ll only see results from the FaceGym Pro with consistent use; once a week isn’t really enough to do anything.

Cost-wise, it’s a huge investment, but if you already want to get FaceGym facials, its Signature Sculpt facial is £110, so five of them would already cost more than the device.

That said, it’s of course not essential, but a fun, luxury add-on that I really enjoyed using, left my face looking more defined and less puffy, and feeling tighter and snatched.
