Two men are due in court this morning in connection with an investigation into alleged connections between gardaí and members of an organised crime group.

The men were arrested this morning.

One is a serving Garda in his 40s who is currently on suspension, the other is a former member of An Garda Síochána, who is in his 60s.

They are due to appear before the Dublin District Court.

The investigation, which is being by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigations, has been ongoing for more than five years.

The charges arise out of a direction from the Director of Public Prosecutions following the submission of a number of files from An Garda Síochána.

In a statement this morning, Garda Headquarters said the investigation into alleged organised crime activity has been ongoing since 2021.

It also said because the matter is now before the courts, it will not be making any further comment
