Status Yellow wind or rain warnings are in place for eight counties as strong winds and heavy rain have been forecast.

The rain warning for Cork, Kerry and Waterford began at 9am and is place until 9pm, with Met Éireann warning of spells of heavy rain, which could lead to localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

A separate Status Yellow wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo came into effect at noon and expires at 9pm.

The forecaster said strong and gusty south to southeast winds could lead to fallen trees and branches, along with difficult travelling conditions.
