The family of a 16-year-old stabbed to death in Peterborough have described him as an “amazing boy and son whose heart is pure”.
Baye Bireme Fall died after being attacked near the Orton Centre shopping centre on Sunday, Cambridgeshire Police said.
Officers were called just before 7pm, and Baye died in hospital just before 9.30pm that night, the force said.
A boy, aged 15, and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, were arrested on suspicion of murder.
Both remain in custody.
Detectives were granted a 36-hour extension to their custody time limit from magistrates on Tuesday morning.
Baye’s family has paid tribute to him in a statement released by the police.
“We are completely shattered and may never recover from the passing away of our son whose life was tragically cut short,” it said.
“Baye was an amazing boy and son whose heart is pure and kind towards other people.
“He was ever so ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need.
“His kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.”
Police said a post-mortem examination was due to take place at Peterborough City Hospital on Wednesday.
A 16-year-old girl from the town of March was charged earlier this week with possessing a bladed article in a public place and is due to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on 13 May.
The girl, who was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on conditional bail.
A 17-year-old girl from Peterborough, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on conditional bail until J8 uly.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for information, urging people to make a report to the police online or call 101 quoting Op Whitby.
