Daniel Dubois produced a spectacular comeback to defeat Fabio Wardley and claim the WBO heavyweight title with an 11th-round stoppage victory at the Co-Op Arena in Manchester.
‘DDD’ was floored twice by the defending champion, including inside the opening 10 seconds of the bout, in what was the worst possible start for the challenger.
He was felled once more in the third, taking a knee after a fierce right, but he responded superbly, refusing to be beaten as he went hunting his Ipswich-born opponent.
He reprieved himself after his fifth-round stoppage loss against Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium last July, and it positions him for a huge match-up later in the year, potentially against Moses Itauma or a trilogy fight against Usyk.
Wardley, defending a world title for the first time after his stunning win over Joseph Parker, was busted up in the later rounds, and refused to go down, keeping his record of never being knocked down in his professional career intact.

Daniel Dubois is eyeing another “reign” as a world heavyweight champion once more after his stunning comeback victory over Fabio Wardley .
Dubois, who was coming off a heavy fifth-round stoppage defeat by Oleskandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium last July, was knocked down twice inside three rounds by the defending WBO champion at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester.

Knocked down after 10 seconds by the first punch Wardley landed in the maiden defence of his crown, panic spread across the face of Dubois, who was then dropped again in the third round in Manchester.
Into the penultimate round...
and it’s over!
The referee finally steps in, as he gets the champion into the corner, unleashes another right, and it’s waved off!
The doctor is looking at Wardley’s right eye, which has swelled up nastily.
He’s cleared to battle on, and Dubois is onto him immediately.
Wardley pops a stiff jab to tell Dubois he’s still there, but the heavier man is back on the front foot, cornering the champion, who is on unsteady legs.
Good footwork from Dubois to stop Wardley coming forward.
That right from the challenger is doing such damage.
Wardley throws a desperate uppercut as Dubois takes a couple of deep breaths moving inside.
That’s a huge right from Dubois which staggers Wardley, who is kept up by the ropes!
Dubois is really dishing out some punishment on Wardley right now, but yet the Ipswich-born fighter remains on his feet.
Surely his advantage has been wiped out after this response from Dubois, but he’s still in this fight.
His right eye is beginning to swell.
Will it cause him any problems?
Wardley is hurt here, as blood streams down his face.
He lands a brutal left that has the Ipswich man staggering into the ropes, but he remains upright!
Dubois puts his foot down and has Wardley up against the ring again.
The champion is swinging from the hip, and he survives again!
More pressure from Dubois after that big confidence-booster in the fourth.
Power punches landed, he’s ahead, but on the scorecards, he’s a long way down.
He needs a knockdown of his own, but he won’t get it if Wardley swings like he does there, just missing the temple of DDD.
Dubois presses forward, pushing Wardley into the corner with a heavy right downstairs.
