Detectives investigating a stabbing in East Ham involving a group of young people are appealing for witnesses.

Police were called to Central Park at around 5.24pm on Wednesday following reports of an altercation involving around a dozen youths near the water fountain.

Upon arrival, officers found a 20-year-old man with stab wounds to his abdomen.

He was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service where his injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening or life-changing.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

Detectives from the Met’s North East Command Unit now want to hear from anyone who was in the park at the time of the incident.

No arrests have yet been made and the investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Sam Lockstone, who is leading the investigation, said: “This happened in broad daylight in a popular park.

We want to hear from anyone who was in the park at the time and might have footage of the incident to come forward and speak to us.

“While knife crime in East Ham is down by 11 per cent in the past year, tackling serious violence is a key priority for the Met.

This was an altercation involving weapons and could easily have ended in tragedy.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 6025/22APR26, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
