Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has taken part in training ahead of the Premier League showdown against Liverpool.
Cunha had emerged as a doubt for the game at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after missing Man United ’s 2-1 win over Brentford with a minor injury.
The Brazilian, who scored the winning goal against Chelsea in his last Man Utd appearance , suffered sore hip flexor which ruled him out against the Bees, though head coach Michael Carrick was confident the issue was not too serious .
“(Cunha) just had a bit of a sore hip flexor after the Chelsea game the other day.
He was looking promising during the week, so we thought he might have been OK, but he just didn’t quite recover quick enough,” Carrick told reporters.
“It is nothing too serious, but unfortunately he doesn’t make it tonight.”
In a huge boost for Man United, Cunha took part in group training on Thursday as preparations began for the Liverpool clash.
It remains to be seen if the United No10 will earn an immediate recall to the side against Liverpool, but Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are, perhaps, most at risk of making way after Benjamin Sesko scored on Monday night .
The Man Utd team to face Liverpool will be announced at 2.15pm BST on Sunday ahead of kick-off at 3.30pm.
Victory for United would see them complete a Premier League double over their fierce rivals having secured an impressive 2-1 win in the reverse fixture at Anfield earlier in the season .
Depending on results involving Brighton and Bournemouth before kick-off at Old Trafford, Man United may have already secured a return to the Champions League - if not then beating Liverpool will confirm a top-five finish.
