It's a clash of the titans...

Coronation Street residents are finally getting to see the side of Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) that she’s hidden so well, for so long.

When that saccharine, butter-wouldn’t-melt, borderline angelic veneer is stripped away, what’s beneath is a cruel and snarling monster, who’s almost gleeful when she knows her prey is bound tightly in a trap as she slithers around them like a serpent.

The problem in this instance, though, is that her prey has proven to be absolutely deadly in her own right, and despite Megan holding a smoking gun that could see Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) put away for life for murdering her husband, we all know that she won’t go down without a fight.

For as vicious as Megan truly is, the malice that exists beyond Maggie’s sharp tongue is just as fearsome, and these two have the ability to utterly annihilate each other, given half a chance.

After her frankly sickening admission last week, next week sees Megan strong-armed up to the salon flat by Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) and Leanne and Toyah Battersby (Jane Danson and Georgia Taylor) who are determined to force a confession from her.

Megan is unaffected by their show of force, though.

Knowing she currently holds all the power, she decides to play with the vengeful sisters and insidiously winds them up, all while nothing that slightly resembles a confession leaves her lips.

In traditional Battersby fashion, it isn’t long until things turn physical, and Megan is left with a bloody nose after a swift dig and, following that, is tossed out into the ginnel.

Not all is lost, though, as she handily lands just as Maggie and Melanie (Cindy Humphrey) are deep in an incredibly private conversation.

As she listens in, Megan’s eyes light up with glee, and she pulls out her phone to record every word.

Now in possession of explosive information regarding the death of Maggie’s husband, Megan’s sure that this is the opportune time to strike and confronts Maggie, smile wide and eyes blazing with victory.

While Maggie attempts to play coy and dismisses Melanie as ‘unbalanced’, Megan gleefully plays the information she’s recorded back to Maggie, who quickly realises that she’s in a bind.

Despite warning Megan that she’s ‘playing with fire’, Megan knows that she has Maggie exactly where she wants her, and flexes her new power when she demands that Maggie throw Ben off of any scent.

Maggie pleads for time to discuss things, but Megan saunters away.

That’s far from the end, though, as Maggie has zero intention of letting anybody else learn of her secret and tracks Megan down, intent on drawing a line under things once and for all.

As the two fierce females go head to head, it becomes clear that one of them is heading for a hurting at the hands of the other.

Will Maggie kill again to keep her secret?

Or will Megan continue to destroy the Driscoll’s, one member at a time?
