Renewed appeal over 1991 disappearance of Cork couple

Gardaí in Fermoy, Co Cork, have renewed their appeal for information on missing couple Conor and Sheila Dwyer on the 35th anniversary of their disappearance.

The following day, Ms Dwyer spoke with her sister by phone.

On 19 May 1991, Ms Dwyer's birthday, her sister tried calling her, but there was no reply.

Soon after, both of her sisters went to the house, but found it empty.

They reported the couple missing to gardaí a few days later on 22 May 1991.

The couple, who were in their 60s, were well-known in the area and drove a white 1978/79 Toyota Cressida.

The car's registration was 5797ZT and has not been seen since the couple's disappearance.

Gardaí say that this investigation remains open and active, and that lines of inquiry have led gardaí abroad as well as around Ireland.

The River Blackwater has been searched on numerous occasions by the Garda Water unit.

"A number of searches and other enquiries were carried out in the past year," said Detective Inspector Anna-Marie Guiney.

"This investigation remains active and ongoing and gardaí will exhaust every option available.

"We would like to once again appeal to members of the public who may have any information to contact us."
