Son charged in connection with death of mother in Galway

A 33-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of his mother, following a serious assault at an apartment complex in Galway over the weekend.

Dubravko Ostojic of no fixed aboad, was brought before a special sitting of Galway District Court this evening, charged with assault causing harm.

She was taken to University Hospital Galway, where she died in the early hours of yesterday morning.

During the brief sitting, Detective Garda Gerry Carroll told the Court that the accused was charged at Galway Garda Station at 5.47pm this evening.

The court was told the investigation into Ms Ostojic's death was ongoing.

A defence application for bail was refused, given the seriousness of the charge.

Judge Gerard Furlong remanded the accused in custody, to appear by videolink at Galway District Court tomorrow morning.

There was no objection to an application for legal aid by defence solicitor John Martin.

Judge Furlong also requested that the accused be provided with all appropriate medical and psychiatric attention upon arrival at his place of detention.

He also requested that a psychiatric report be compiled as soon as possible.
