The SSLC Board examinations for which the Department of School Education has made elaborate arrangements saw a smooth start in the districts of Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag and Uttara Kannada on Friday with no case of malpractice being reported on the first day.

The department officials and personnel have made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the examination, while customary prohibitory orders are in place around the examination centres as a precautionary measure.

Like it has been seen in the recent years, students reaching the examination centres were greeted by teachers with flowers and sweets, wishing them good luck.

Officials of the School Education department were also at the examination centres greeting students on the first day of the examination.

In Dharwad, out of the total 28,120 candidates who registered for the examination, 27,868 appeared for the first language paper in 105 centres on Wednesday, with 252 students remaining absent.

In Gadag district, out of the 15,843 students who registered for the examination, 15,476 appeared for the first paper at 61 centres spread across the district.

As many as 367 students remained absent on the first day.

The observers and members of the vigilance squad appointed by the respective Deputy Commissioners visited the centres to oversee the conduct of the examination and also checked for any kind of malpractice.

After the examination, answer sheets were kept locked in strong rooms under police protection.
