Why this week's RMT walkouts were the least effective for years
This week’s Tubestrikes by RMT members have been the union’s least effective walkouts on the London Underground for years, data has revealed.
The second of two 24-hour walkouts this week ended at midday on Friday, but services were not expected to return to normal levels until Saturday.
Official figures show that a normal service continued on more than half of scheduled trains across all London Underground lines on Tuesday.
Sources within the transport authority said they could not remember any previous RMT strikes in which over half of the planned services continued to operate.
While only around 60% of Tube drivers reported for work, passengers have been able to get around the city much easier than during the strikes in September last year.
Hundreds of bus drivers on a number of routes in London launched a 24-hour strike at 5am in a separate row over issues including breaks and weekend working.
Members of Unite employed by Stagecoach are planning more walkouts in the next few weeks unless the row is resolved.
Stagecoach has insisted schedules and rotas are compiled within the law and with safety in mind.
The Central line is running a limited service amid the disruption caused by today’s earlier strike action.
Trains are running between Liverpool Street and Epping, Woodford via Hainault.
Services are also running between White City and Ealing Broadway, West Ruislip.
There is no service on the rest of the line.
As of 1.30pm, here is the status of all major Tube lines:
The Circle line has opened for the first time today.
The line is now running with severe delays.
The Waterloo & City line is now the only line which is still closed.
There are now only minor delays on the Victoria line.
There is no service on the Northern line between Hampstead and Edgware due to a points failure at Golders Green.
