Manchester United enjoyed a fine weekend in the northwestern sun as they beat Liverpool to confirm their return to the Champions League and dashed various injury headaches.

The Red Devils were impressive against their rivals from Merseyside, winning 3-2 thanks to goals from Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Kobbie Mainoo.

Cunha had been considered a doubt ahead of the match after missing last week’s win over Brentford, but was fit enough to start and get his name on the scoresheet.

Luke Shaw also featured after being forced off against the Bees.

Elsewhere, Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro were both able to play a role.

There is little left for United to play for this season now they have qualified for Europe, but are still sweating over a couple of fitness worries as they look to finish the season on a high in remaining matches against Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.

With that said, here is all the latest Manchester United injury news and potential return dates...

Benjamin Sesko was responsible for United’s second goal against Liverpool, which he scored in controversial circumstances , but was not afforded much of an opportunity to add to his tally on the day.

The big Slovenian was hauled off at half-time to be replaced by Amad Diallo, who almost immediately gifted Dominik Szoboszlai the chance to score and bring Liverpool back into the tie.

Sesko had an awkward coming together with Ibrahima Konate before he was withdrawn.

The pair came together shoulder-to-shoulder and the United striker fell awkwardly into the Old Trafford advertising hoardings.

Speaking at full-time, Michael Carrick revealed he had aggravated a pre-existing shin injury in doing so.

He told Sky Sports: “He's been carrying a shin problem for some time, he got pushed and caught the bit that's been causing him some problems.”
Carrick did not, however, offer any insight into how severe the injury was or how much time he might miss.

The incident did not seem serious, though, suggesting Sesko could return next weekend.

Potential return date: May 9 vs Sunderland (A)
Matthijs de Ligt has now missed 23 Manchester United matches as he struggles to recover from a nebulous lower back injury.

The issue first cropped up against Crystal Palace back in November, and the Dutchman has been absent ever since.

He has endured various setbacks on the road to recovery and it remains to be seen whether he can feature again this season, let alone at this summer’s World Cup.

He is back in training, though, and it is hoped he can soon make a comeback.

Speaking last week, Carrick said: “Matthijs [de Ligt] is still a little bit further [away from a comeback], he won't be involved in the game [vs Liverpool.”
In an earlier update, he explained: “It's different treatment and different exercises.

He's in the gym and doing work but he's not quite on the grass and he's not ready for that yet.

“That's the process that unfortunately when you're injured you’ve to go through.

Sometimes it happens quick quicker than others and sometimes there's things that don't quite go to plan and it's a bit slower.

“He's just at that stage where he's working through that at the moment and we're trying to get him back right.”
