Third-generation crossover becomes EV-only model ahead of 2027 launch
Nissan has revealed an all-new electric Juke, taking one of its best-known models into the EV era and giving its European electrification plans – plus Nissan’s Sunderland plant, where the Juke is built – another big boost in the process.
Now Nissan is aiming to keep that same appeal, but with zero tailpipe emissions.
The new Juke EV has been described by the company as agile, compact and unmistakably Nissan, with the Juke’s unique sense of character carried over into an all-electric package.
It will sit on the brand’s CMF-EV platform, sharing technology with Renault, and will be launched in spring 2027.
The new model is hugely significant for UK manufacturing, because it will be built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant.
That factory already has a key role in the firm’s electric future, having built the all-electric Leaf for years, including the latest model, and Nissan says the first trial phase of Juke production will begin in the coming weeks.
The electric Juke will become part of a growing European EV range that already includes the Ariya SUV , the new Renault 5-based Micra and third-generation Leaf, with another small A-segment EV (sharing technology with the Renault Twingo ) are also on the way.
That broader EV push does not mean Nissan is walking away from hybrids just yet, though.
The firm says its e-POWER technology will continue to play an important role in Europe, with cars such as the Qashqai e-POWER and Juke HEV still offering buyers an alternative for those not yet ready to make the switch to a fully electric car.
“Europe is central to Nissan’s electrification strategy, and we remain firmly committed to a fully electric future,” said Massimiliano Messina, Chairman of Nissan AMIEO.
“With a rapidly expanding EV line-up, we are bringing greater choice and innovation to every segment, powered by our strong design, engineering and manufacturing footprint in the region.
Together, this next generation of vehicles will accelerate our transition to zero-emission mobility.”
Despite the new Juke’s global reveal in Japan, the car has had input from Nissan’s engineering and development teams across the UK, Spain and Germany, underlining Europe’s role as both a manufacturing base and an innovation hub.
“Juke has always stood for bold design and a willingness to challenge convention.
With this third generation, we are bringing that spirit into the electric age,” said Clíodhna Lyons, Region Vice President of Product, Brand & Marketing Strategy for Nissan AMIEO.
“As our first fully electric Juke, it will help us reach new customers while expanding choice across our electrified range.”
For Nissan this is more than just another new model.
The Juke has always been one of its standout European nameplates and turning it into an EV is a clear sign of where the company believes the European car market is heading.
