EastEnders fans have been left worried about the fate of Denise Fox (Diane Parish) after she revealed that she intends to make a doctor’s appointment.
The show icon told Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) earlier this week that she has felt ‘knackered’ recently and thus intends to make an appointment with her GP for a ‘check-up’.
The scene in question left a number of viewers of the BBC One soap concerned, fearing that it’s foreshadowing a health-related storyline for Denise.
‘This makes me nervous,’ wrote fan Ryan Love on X, formerly known as Twitter, sharing screenshots of Denise’s dialogue.
Social media user Mason agreed, writing: ‘Sameeee there’s more to that.
Maybe she dies that’s why jacks alone in the new years ep’.
Denise’s husband Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), as viewers will recall, was seen devastated and alone in an episode that is set on New Year’s Day 2027.
Could something have happened to his beloved Denise that has resulted in him being so upset?
While it’s certainly a possibility, it’s unlikely given that Denise is one of four possibilities for Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) mystery bride.
‘literally i’m so scared now,’ said liv on X, wondering what exactly purpose Denise’s doctor comment served, while fan Kat pondered: ‘i fear something is definitely gonna be wrong with ar’ denise hence squiggle being back in the new year and jack being on his own/struggling’
Some users have even speculated that it could be signs of a pregnancy storyline for Denise, which could explain the presence of baby Ethan – whose parentage remains unknown – in the flashforward episode.
‘jacknise baby manifestation,’ wrote user iluvtraumafr, while chattyreality added: if she’s pregnant this would line up perfectly with jack having a newborn on new year’s day.’
We’ll just have to wait and see if Denise’s comment amounts to anything major storyline-wise or if she simply is just tired.
But either way, she’s set to feature significantly in the coming year because, as mentioned earlier, Max is set to wed a mystery bride on New Year’s Day.
The identity of his bride-to-be remains a mystery, though EastEnders did imply that one of Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) and Denise will be the (un?)lucky lady.
