EastEnders spoilers follow for Monday’s (April 23) episode, which is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) waltzed back into Walford on Monday, having picked up the message left for him by estranged son Mark Fowler Jr (Stephen Aaron-Sipple), who made contact last week.

Following a conversation with Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf), who told him that Grant had ignored all her calls, Mark decided to reach out to his father, informing him of Nigel Bates’ (Paul Bradley) condition.

With Phil struggling in silence, Sam and Mark hoped that Grant could help but when he arrived back in the Square, he spotted Julie (Karen Henthorn), who told him that Nigel had suffered a fall in the middle of the night and she’d only just picked up the missed calls.

Grant accompanied Julie to the hospital, where he broke down seeing his best friend.

Sam offered comfort to an emotional Julie, while Grant said he would go and sit with Nige, who regained consciousness and spoke for the first time in weeks, mistaking Grant for Phil.

Phil, meanwhile, resolved to stay away from the hospital after hearing about Nigel’s fall so Grant, Sam and Mark staged an intervention, determined to make him see that he needs to go visit Nigel before it’s too late.

Phil raged at them all, ordering them out of his house.

Grant informed him that Nigel spoke to him, which took Phil by surprise given that he hadn’t talked in weeks, but the brothers were soon at war, with Phil demanding that Grant vacate the premises at once.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One or stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
