Man charged in Monaghan car ramming investigation

A man in his 20s has been charged in relation to the investigation into a series of violent incidents in Co Monaghan last Thursday.

A 24-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with an incident in Monaghan on Thursday in which a garda was allegedly assaulted.

Vincentas Miksta, of Riverview, Ballinode, Co Monaghan, was charged with five offences at Trim District Court this afternoon.

The charges were assault, misuse of drugs, the sale and supply of cocaine, attempting to escape from lawful custody and obstruction of a police officer.

Garda Evelyn Daire gave evidence saying that Mr Miksta was observed at St Mary's Church in Tullycorbett, Ballybay, Co Monaghan in a vehicle.

He was later apprehended and taken to Monaghan Garda Station.

Defence Barrister Dimitry Grinberg said that Mr Miksta had been compliant during his interview with gardaí, to which Garda Daire agreed.

Judge Raymond Finnegan said offences are of a serious nature and he refused bail, and remanded him in custody.

He is due to appear before court in Monaghan via video link on Monday.
