Who knows when it'll be back.

This change is causing a stir with customers, as many aren’t happy about saying goodbye to what they claim is the ‘best’ product McDonald’s has ever sold.

What is a McGriddle?

Priced at £3.99 each, the product features a sausage patty, fried egg and a slice of American cheese sandwiched between two maple-flavoured griddle cakes.

These are essentially a sausage, egg and cheese McMuffin, but with fluffy American-style pancakes in place of the English muffin.

The griddle cakes are slightly denser and thicker than your average pancake, and they have granulated maple syrup crystals baked into them, so you don’t have to worry about getting in a sticky, syrupy mess when eating.

What do fans think?

On Reddit, McDonald’s fans have been singing the praises of the limited-edition McGriddles, with some hailing them ‘unreal’, ‘top tier’, and ‘the best’.

In one post online, u/jackol4nt3rn said: ‘McGriddle is now the best breakfast item!

‘It’s so much better than the sad old McMuffin, it’s almost like an angel swooped down and dropped it off.

In reality, it was an Uber guy in a Toyota.

This is top tier.

Unexpectedly delightful.’

Similarly, u/meringeder wrote: ‘Agreed.

I never want a McMuffin again now.

I really wish it wasn’t a limited run.’
While u/Leading-Draw-1872 confessed they were going to miss McGriddles so much when they were axed, they were considering buying loads and freezing them.

‘I just wanted to say how much I will miss the McGriddle,’ they posted.

‘I can’t be the only one?

‘I experimented and froze one.

It defrosted quite well (minus the egg – not a huge egg fan and didn’t fancy reheating it, did a fresh one instead) and tasted okay reheated.

‘I’m debating ordering a ton of them tomorrow and freezing them… who knows when/if it’ll be back?’
‘This is genuinely my favourite breakfast item they’ve ever done at McDonald’s, it’s the best one I’ve ever had.

‘If you haven’t had a McGriddle, what are you doing?

Imagine a McMuffin, but like 90 times better, it’s so good.’
As Metro’s specialist food writer, I also gave the McGriddles a go and agree with this verdict, as I proclaimed it the best McDonald’s breakfast yet.
For me, it ticks all the boxes you’d want from a fast food breakfast – it’s greasy, filling, and delicious.

On top of that, it’s a fun mix of sweet and savoury flavours, offering something a little different from the norm.

However, not everyone has been quite so keen on the product; others have found the maple flavour to be too sweet, calling it ‘gross’ and ‘McTerrible’.

Are you sad to see McGriddles go?

  • Devastated!

  • I literally don't care...

  • What's a McGriddle?

Will we ever see McGriddles return?

Nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet, but it seems there’s a good chance that the McGriddles could return at some point in the future.

Lauren Schultz, the CEO of McDonald’s UK & Ireland, told MCA Insight that the response to McGriddles had been ‘very positive’ and is said to have hinted at plans to bring it back.

So if you’re sad to see them go, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for what’s coming up at McDonald’s soon.
