Steven Gerrard has named Paris Saint-Germain as his pick to win the Champions League this season.

PSG ran out 5-4 winners over Bayern Munich in a thrilling first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

Arsenal and Atletico Madrid had a tough act to follow on Wednesday evening and they cancelled each other out with a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Speaking after PSG’s victory against Bayern, four-time Champions League winner Clarence Seedorf claimed Arsenal’s solid defence puts them as frontrunners to win the competition this season.

But Gerrard, who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, believes PSG will see off Bayern in the semi-final and go on to beat either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid to win the tournament for a second successive season.

When asked who he would put his money on to win the Champions League, Gerrard said on TNT Sports: ‘It’s been on PSG since the beginning.

‘I haven’t had a bet financially but my choice was PSG.

The final last year, I just think they’re so good when they’re at their best, they’re so difficult to beat.

‘I think it’s kidology from Luis Enrique’s point of view because at 5-2, a coach or a manager’s position, you think if you can get away 5-2 up it’s game over.

I think now it’s very risky, Bayern are capable of winning the game.

‘But I just think PSG, the chances Real Madrid had [against Bayern], and they were not in a good place as a collective, PSG will go there full of confidence, full of belief, they’re full of world-class players.

I think they’ll punish Bayern Munich going the other way.’
