If there’s one thing we’ve learned in our many years of watching Hollyoaks, it’s that once a wedding is on the horizon, you can expect twists, turns and disaster aplenty.
The long-awaited union of Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) is no different, despite how much fans might be hoping for things to go smoothly!
Let’s face it: it’s been a turbulent journey to the altar for the couple, with numerous obstacles and ordeals thrown their way in a rather short space of time.
The devastating loss of Rex’s mum Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and grandad Froggy Black (John Middleton), both who were killed by his aunt Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) – who was later presumed dead herself – to Ste’s fling with his son Lucas’ (Oscar Curtis) boyfriend Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) are just a few that spring to mind.
And that was just for starters!
Rex, as viewers know, has also bravely been exploring his identity and wearing women’s clothes, which Ste has struggled to understand.
In fact, when Rex wore a woman’s blouse during a night out at The Loft, he lashed out and found himself getting arrested.
His legal representation following the incident was none other than James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) and as they discussed Ste’s struggles with Rex, passion soon ensued between the former flames as the ex-husbands spent the night together.
Rex overheard Ste admit to his one night stand with James and decided to stay shtum.
In a bid to ensure his future with Ste, he claimed that his experimentation with women’s clothes was just a ‘phase’.
But Ro Hutchinson (Leo Cole) later overheard Ste discuss his night of passion with James.
Ro, who recently admitted to having feelings for Rex, resolves to stop the wedding in upcoming scenes, believing Ste is undeserving of Rex’s affection.
The teen’s actions leave Diane (Alex Fletcher) nervous, fearing that her son is bottling up his feelings again.
As the day of the wedding approaches, Rex makes a comment that leaves Leela (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) convinced that he knows about her brother’s fling with James.
And speaking of Ste, he extends a wedding invite to Beth Keane (Rebecca Ryan), unaware of the feud between the new clan and the Osbornes but soon he fears for the fate of relationship with Rex after Leela informs him that she suspects he already knows about James.

After a conversation with Kathleen-Angel McQueen (Naledi Rapotu), Ro decides to follow his heart and tell Rex the truth – but he’s soon stopped in his tracks.
The question is: by what or who?
Later, a lovely scene unfolds at The Dog as Darren plays guitar with everyone huddled near the fireplace – but the peace is soon shattered as Ro bursts in and takes action, wanting to protect Rex and put a stop to the wedding.
Just what does he do?
I fear I cannot give everything away but later in the week secrets do subsequently come out, leaving the fate of the wedding up in the air.
On the day of the nuptials, Ste takes it upon herself to ensure the wedding goes ahead but needs a little help from Leela.
The guests gather, hoping to keep spirits high as they await news on if the ceremony will be going ahead or not.
Will Rex and Ste make it down the aisle?
Or will they be forced to accept that too much has happened to make it work?
