To-face in Holland Park

This is the moment a real dog came face-to-face with a robot dog on the streets of west London — and wasn’t very happy about it.

The footage, filmed in Holland Park , shows the black and white dog clearly confused by its robotic counterpart, keeping its distance and barking loudly.

Spooked by the robot, the dog constantly approaches warily before retreating, still barking and flapping its ears.

At one point, the robot dog astonishingly stands on its hind legs - to shouts of “Oh my God what the hell?” from equally bewildered onlookers.

As the robot comes closer, the dog retreats further, moving onto some steps on the pavement in an attempt to escape.

The dog’s owner, wearing a grey top and jeans, also can’t believe what he is seeing, shaking his head with a smile on his face.

The footage is accompanied by ongoing commentary from the person filming, with comments such as “Dog sees the future and he is like ‘Nah’.

That is hilarious” and “The dog is like what is going on.

You are on four legs but this should not be happening.”
The robot dog in the video appears to be the Go2 AIR Robotic Dog model made by Chinese firm Unitree Robotics.

Costing around £2,000, it is described as an “advanced intelligent bionic quadruped robot”, which can “perform complex movements” including upside-down walking, adaptive roll-over and obstacle climbing.

It uses sensors to assess its surroundings, uses reflected light to create 3D models and maps of nearby objects, and can recognise human voices and respond to commands and questions.

There is a camera where the dog's face would be with an ultra-wide angle lens, and an accompanying smartphone app which lets users+ view the photos or see a feed of surroundings from the dog's point of view.
